Our Fittings

OPS distributes a wide range of TDW fittings for all kinds of possible applications. Below you will find an overview of the most commonly used fittings.

Non-standard fittings can be engineered in collaboration with the customer.

Fittings come in all shapes and sizes. They can be constructed very easily, such as a flanged pipe or nozzle. However, they also exist in more complex designs such as the 3-way tee or Spherical 3-way tee.

Above you will find a flowchart that helps you on your way to choosing the right Hot-Tap or Line Plugging Fitting for your application.

Hot Tapping Fittings

Tapping fittings are full- or reduced-size branches on a pipeline on which a threaded or flanged connection is provided. Full-encirclement or a simple pipe are possible versions of a hot-tap fitting.

Before performing a tapping operation, a permanent or temporary valve will be installed.

OPS Small Hot-Tap Fittings

OPS created a special series of Hot-Tap Fittings in small sizes (≤3″). Both Stub-on and Full Encirclement types are available.
If a customer wishes a full Hot-Tap project scope, we can also include a valve, packings, bolts, nuts and a service intervention (welding included) in a single quote.

The most simple Hot-Tap Fittings are made of a pipe with & threaded or flanged connection. An overview of these branch connections is available in attachment.

Split tee (size-on-size)

When performing size-on-size Hot-Tap operations, a reinforcement of the main pipeline may be required. A Split Tee provides sufficient strength to the main pipe to compensate for the weakening due to new connection. The extra reinforcement makes it possible to cut through the pipe with large diameters.

When performing non size-on-size Hot-Tap operations, (as with size-on-size applications) it may still be necessary to provide a reinforcement of the main pipe as it is weakened by the Hot-Tap operation. The split-Tee with reduced branch provides a solution.

3-Way Tee

3-Way Tee’s are an inventive solution when a new branch needs to be connected to an onstream pipeline. The 3-Way Tee’s design makes it possible to fully provide a new connection before it will be taken into service. When the entire branch is finished, a single Hot-Tap operation is required to open product flow.

Note: When a Line Plugging operation is necessary afterwards, the 3-Way Tee’s can be used and no additional welding will be needed.

Spherical 3-Way Tee

Just as the regular 3-Way Tee, a Spherical 3-Way Tee provides inventive solutions for creating new branches on an existing piping network. Whereas the 3-Way Tee can be used for both gases and liquids, a Spherical 3-Way Tee can only be used for gases due to turbulences that would occur with liquids.

Note: When a Line Plugging operation is necessary afterwards, the 3-Way Tee’s can be used and no additional welding will be needed.

Line Plugging Fittings

Before performing Line Plugging operations, a line plugging fitting needs to be installed. Line Plugging Fittings are size-on-size pipeline connections where from plugging operations will be executed. Below you will find a listing of the line plugging fittings we distribute.

When performing plugging operations, temporary valves will be installed on the fittings. Line Plugging Fittings depend on the required pressure class.

150# SHORTSTOPP® Welding Fittings

Shortstopp Welding Fittings are most commonly used to execute plugging interventions. Fittings untill 3” (DN80) have a threaded connection, the larger sizes have a flanged connection.

150# SHORTSTOPP® 3-Way Tee

The Shortstopp 3-Way Tee is an inventive solution for making new branches. Next to plugging interventions, its construction makes it possible to prepare a completely new branch without taking it live. When the new branch is completed, a single hot tap operation needs to be performed to open product flow.

150# SHORTSTOPP® Spherical 3-Way Tee

When working with products in the gaseous state, a Spherical 3-way tee can be used. This fitting is welded around an existing pipe and welded to an entire new branch. When the branch is finished, it can be brought into operation by one Hot-Tap perforation from the top of the Spherical 3-way tee. The ball around the pipe will be filled with gas and the new branch will be put into operation.

Note: Use of the Spherical 3-way tee is not recommended when working with liquids due to turbulences.
